ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

 

  1. APPLICATION FEE – Please enclose a non-refundable $10.00 application fee. Send the application fee in the form of a check or money order payable to Walters State Community College. (DO NOT SEND CASH). Readmitted students do not pay the application fee.
  2. Secure an application for admission. Fill out all requested information in ink or type the information.
  3. Have your high school send an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT AFTER GRADUATION. If you are applying prior to graduation and are also applying for a scholarship, your high school will need to send a copy of your transcript SHOWING SEVEN (7) SEMESTERS WORK TO THE OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID.
  4. Applicants under the AGE OF 21, regardless of whether the student is degree-seeking or not, must submit official scores from ACT or SAT to Walters State. The ACT or SAT must have been taken no later than three (3) years prior to the beginning date of classes or the term for which application is being made. Advance Studies students who are not enrolling for an English or math course, Basic Police Officer Education students, and those students enrolling in technical or job-related courses are exempt from this requirement. Exempted students will, however be required to submit these scores if they change to degree-seeking status prior to reaching the age of 21 years.
  5. Degree Seeking applicants 21 years and older are required to undergo placement assessment prior to enrollment. This assessment should be scheduled well in advance of registration through the Department of Counseling and Testing. Degree-seeking applicants under the age of 21 with ACT or equivalent SAT scores of less than 19 in the English, Mathematics, or Reading areas will be placed into the appropriate Remedial/Developmental courses warranted by the ACT or SAT scores. Transfer students who have no prior college credit in English Composition I and/or college level mathematics will be required to undergo placement assessment in the appropriate area, or provide ACT or SAT less than three years old..
  6. If you are a Transfer student, you will need to submit an official copy of your transcript from EACH of the colleges you have attended. Special students who have prior college credit are required to submit an official copy of the last college they attended UNLESS they are pursuing one of the TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES OF CREDIT offered by the college, which in this case all transcripts are required..
  7. Admission to Walters State does not guarantee admission to a specific program of study. Admission to certain programs must be approved by the appropriate division chair or the director of the program (i.e., Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant, Public Safety, Respiratory Care).
  8. Male applicants born January 1, 1960 and after must certify registration with Selective Service System. (See Item 14 on the application for additional information.)
  9. Some students will be required to furnish appropriate documentation to verify Tennessee residency for the purpose of paying in-state fees.
  10. Return the completed application and the $10.00 application fee to:
