Statement of Purpose:

Placement Services at Walters State provides quality employment opportunities for students and graduates.  Placement Services serves as a liaison between employers and students/graduates seeking full-time and part-time, skilled and unskilled, employment opportunities.  The office provides personal counseling to:  (1) assist with the development of personal marketing plans to obtain employment; 2) understand the do's and don'ts of job hunting in today's market; 3) critique resumes and aid in interviewing skills.  Placement Services enhances the chance of success in the new job market.

Use of Placement Services by Graduates  back to top

Prior to graduation (during the last semester), a Graduate Follow-up Survey form must be completed for Student Support Services, Room 210 CCEN.  If the graduate chooses active status, a file is created and a formal resume is requested.

  • Formal resume (Assistance is available through instruction booklets, pamphlets and examples.  Staff will critique resumes and offer suggestions for improvements.);

  • Letters of recommendation or ratings sheets (available for distribution by graduate) from faculty or past/present employers; and

  • Graduate Follow-up Survey

 

Use of Placement Services by Currently Enrolled Students

Students are encouraged to read The Bulletin and check the bulletin board located on the 2nd Floor, College Center.  Position announcements detailing job title, hours, location, qualifications, salary and how to contact the employer about the position are available in Placement Services, located in College Center Room 212P.  Students are strongly advised to have a resume to submit to employers.

How Placement Services Works for Employers    back to top

Employers are encouraged to list vacancies within their companies or businesses. Employers can submit the Job Listing form by fax, e-mail information requested on form or call Placement Services.

 Free services offered to employers:

  • Provide rooms to conduct on-campus interviews

  • Campus recruitment

  • Mail position announcements to graduates

  • Fax or mail resumes to employers

  • Publish job listings in weekly school newsletter, The Bulletin

  • Post employment opportunities on bulletin board

  • Send information to department heads and instructors

Other Services Provided  

Information regarding part-time and full-time employment opportunities for students/graduates is available for distribution during regular business hours.  Inquiries are made to employers on a regular basis to ascertain whether the positions listed are open.  Employment opportunities are posted on the bulletin board located on the 2nd Floor, College Center.
