Statement of Purpose

A Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, human resource management, or transportation and logistics prepares graduates to fill managerial and technical support positions.  An Associate of Science - Business degree at Walters State provides the first two years of courses that can be transferred to a college or university to satisfy requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in a business field.

The job outlook for executive, administrative, and managerial occupations is expected to remain steady for the next ten years.  Complexity of business and increasing numbers of businesses will result in a need for trained professionals to fill managerial and technical support positions.   Changing technology has resulted in many adults upgrading their skills to meet the demands of the global marketplace.

Suggested Course Sequence

Students under the associate of science degree in business plan to transfer to a 4-year higher education institution.  In order for the majority of their courses to transfer, they need to know which institution they are planning on transferring to.  Once they have made this decision, they should go to Counseling & Testing in the College Center to sign an articulation agreement with that school.   This articulation agreement protects the student from subsequent catalog changes at the 4-year school.

Another reason that it is necessary to know which institution you will attend is because different colleges accept different courses from us.  For example, UT only accepts Western World Civilization I & II for the history requirement.   However, ETSU only accepts American History I & II for the history requirement.   Students will be much more satisfied with the number of credits that will actually transfer with them if they know ahead of time where they wish to attend after their years with us at Walters State.

The following list is a suggested course sequence.  You will find many choices of courses.  Your selection should be determined based on the school, which you intend to promote.  Below are the three options available to you.  The first is the general transfer option, the second is the transfer option to UT at Knoxville, and the third is the transfer option to ETSU.
