REPORTING SENIOR: Director of Campus Police

JOB OBJECTIVES: To provide police services at the Sevierville Campus and other college controlled property.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Protect life and property on campus on college controlled property.
  2. Enforce state laws and college regulations.
  3. Conduct regular equipment, facility, fire safety and safety phone checks.
  4. Monitor parking and provide traffic flow services.
  5. Provide vehicle security.
  6. Conduct investigations as directed and prepare reports.
  7. Maintain an effective mode of communication at all times.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB STANDARDS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent from a standard high school (AS degree or higher in Criminal Justice Technology or related field preferred) and certification by the TN Peace Officer's Standards and Training (POST) Commission per TCA 38-8-107.
  2. Meet or exceed the requirements of the minimum standards law as stated per (TCA 38-8-106). Physical and psychological examinations are required only after a conditional job offer has been made.
  3. Knowledge of campus policies and campus jurisdictional areas.
  4. Knowledge of city, county and state laws and court proceedings.
  5. Knowledge of effective methods of investigation, and police/security work.
  6. Ability to react properly and to enforce laws and policies tactfully and with respect for the rights of others.
  7. Ability to operate law-enforcement equipment.
  8. Ability to meet institutional and local area requirements related to arrest authority and weapons use.

JOB LOCATION: The college’s Sevier County Campus in Sevierville, TN.

EQUIPMENT: Use of firearms, restraint devices, communications equipment and standard office equipment is required.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: Competence in the use of required equipment and the ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, other employees and the general public.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Marginal tasks performed include occasional typing and data entry processing.

SALARY: Negotiable, according to the salary guide of the college and individual qualifications.

Campus Police Officer

Should meet or exceed the requirements of the Minimum Standards Law (TCA 38-8-106).

Be at least 18 years of age.

Be a citizen of the United States.

Be a high school graduate or possess equivalency.

Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances and not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States.

Have his (or her) fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

*Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician.

Have a good moral character as determined by a thorough investigation conducted by the employing agency.

*Be free of all apparent mental disorders as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 3rd edition (DSM-11) of the American Psychiatric Association. Applicants must be certified as meeting these criteria by a qualified professional in the psychiatric or psychological fields.

Possession of a valid Tennessee Operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
