Associate of Applied Science in Greenhouse Management
Walters State's two-year concentration in Greenhouse Management is designed to prepare successful graduates for entry-level employment in the field of greenhouse production and management and landscaping. Duties may primarily include the business aspects of running a business that grows and provides trees, shrubs, flowers, ornamental plants, and vegetables for sale, such as hiring and supervising workers, establishing output goals, determining financial constraints, monitoring production and marketing, determining inventory transportation and storage requirements, and overseeing maintenance of the property and equipment.
Technical Certificate in Horticulture
The Certificate in Horticulture is designed to prepare individuals who have aspirations to strengthen their knowledge within the horticulture industry. The certificate offers the student the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of plant growth and development. Subject matter includes turfgrass, soil, plant material, pests and production. The certificate requires 22 hours for completion; it is not a major or a substitute for the A.A.S. degree.
Technical Certificate in Landscape Management
The Certificate in Landscape Management is designed to prepare individuals who have aspirations to strengthen their knowledge of professional landscape techniques. This certificate equips students with the latest horticultural technologies and valuable hands-on experience. Subject matter includes plant materials, soil, pest control, maintenance, irrigation and design. This certificate will also include preparation for EPA restricted use pesticide certification. The certificate requires 23 hours for completion; it is not a major or a substitute for the A.A.S. degree.
