Getting Started

The Health Programs Application Portal allows students to apply to the following programs during the published application periods:

  • nursing
  • nursing career mobility (LPN-RN transition)
  • physical therapist assistant
  • respiratory care
  • surgical technology
  • occupational therapist assistant
  • pharmacy technician.

Please note, you must be accepted to Walters State before applying to any of the above programs. For more information, please visit Admissions.

Deadline Requirements

The following must be completed by the application deadline.

  • application portal profile
  • program application
  • upload transcripts of all previously completed coursework
  • submit observation/employment experience hours
    (PTA applicants only)

Only test scores and current semester grades will be allowed to be uploaded after the application deadline has passed. See Health Programs Application Portal period table for deadlines and more details. Students who fail to submit application and supplemental materials by published deadlines are considered ineligible for program ranking.

Check the health programs application portal often. Any information regarding your application status or additional requirements will be posted under the individual program applications shown on MY APPLICATIONS.

Accepted Students Additional Requirements

WSCC Health Programs Immunizations

Due to your potential risk for exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials, you may be at risk of acquiring Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection, measles, mumps, rubella, or varicella (chicken pox). Health Programs students must provide documentation of complete vaccinations or titers from their healthcare provider.

Documentation to Submit

Accepted students must submit one form of documentation listed below for each disease following admission to a program.

Hepatitis B (HBV)

The Hepatitis B vaccine series must be started prior to beginning a clinical program – student must submit upon entry to program either:

  • Documentation of any immunization dates. (Subsequent immunization dates must be submitted until complete series documented).
    (This series of 3 immunizations will take 7 months to complete).
  • OR
  • Laboratory proof of immunity if series complete and documentation of immunization dates not available.
  • If series is not complete at the time clinical starts, clinical agencies may require students to sign a waiver to participate in clinical experiences.

MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • proof of two doses of vaccine
  • OR
  • labratory proof of immunity(titers-blood test)
Varicella (Chicken Pox)
  • proof of two doses of varicella vaccine
  • OR
  • labratory proof of immunity (titer-blood test)
Annual Flu Vaccine
  • Students must maintain current season flu vaccines throughout the program.
TB Skin Test
  • Students must complete an initial 2-step TB skin test. First test is placed, read with 48-72 hours. Student returns 1-3 weeks later for second placement. Second test is placed, read 48-72 hours later. Documentation must include placement dates, reading dates, and results.
  • After the initial 2-step TB skin test, students will complete an annual 1-step test. Documentation must include placement date, reading date, and result.
  • If you have a current TB skin test (within one year) you may submit those results and repeat annually in place of a 2 step TB skin test.
  • Chest x-ray required ONLY if TB skin test is positive. Students who complete the chest x-ray do not need to renew annually unless required by an assigned clinical facility.
TDAP
  • 2nd dose (within 10 years)

Student Exemptions

Acceptance of you as a student in a clinical facility will be at the clinical affiliate's discretion.

If a clinical affiliate denies your presence, you will not be able to complete the clinical practicum
and you will be withdrawn from the program.

Students who fail to provide the above information will not be allowed to participate in clinical and must withdraw from the program.
