Baseball Hammers Vol State
GALLATIN, Tennessee – The No. 2 Walters State baseball team put on another impressive power display Friday night against TJCCAA rival Volunteer State.
The Senators connected for seven homers, including two by red-hot freshman Jesse Wierzbicki, and had 11 extra-base hits total in pummeling the Pioneers, 16.3 With the win, Walters State is 29-5 overall and 15-2 in the TJCCAA while Volunteer State is 15-15, 5-9.
Wierzbicki added a double to go with his two round-trippers while scoring three runs and driving in three. Also belting homers for the Senators were Chad Hunter, Cody Hawn, Adam Milligan, Kyle Koeneman and Will Skinner. On the season, Walters State has now smacked 76 round-trippers.
Hawn, in addition to his homer, added two doubles and a single in the lopsided victory, Koeneman chipped in two singles with his homer while Hunter had a double and two stolen bases. It was the fifth straight game that Hunter recorded at least two stolen bases. Nick Langley also had a two-bagger.
Sophomore righthander David Francis (6-1) went eight strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking four. Adam Ray worked the ninth inning, allowing one run on two hits to go along with two strikeouts.
The Senators and Pioneers conclude their three-game set with a twinbill Saturday. Scheduled start tie is 1 p.m.
