Baseball Sweeps Tennessee Wesleyan

 

ATHENS, Tennessee — The top-ranked Walters State baseball team extended their winning streak to 10 games Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Tennessee Wesleyan.

 

The Senators (21-3) netted a 9-3 win in the opener before cruising to a 12-5 victory in the second game.

 

Sophomore designated hitter Adam Stooksberry swatted a three-run homer, his third of the season, in the first inning in game one to set the tone for Walters State.

 

Freshman outfielder Chad Hunter later added a two-run homer, his fifth long-ball of the campaign, to seal away the triumph.

 

Stooksberry and Hunter each finished with a homer and a single for the Senators. Myles Cordell and Alex McClure each doubled and singled while Jesse Wierzbicki and Kyle Koeneman each belted a two-bagger.

 

Sophomore lefthander Jack Snodgrass (2-0) started the game and worked three innings to collect the mound decision. Adam Ray and Ben Walker pitched in relief of Snodgrass.

 

In the second game, freshman Brandon Chastain had a single, a two-run double and a two-rum homer, his second of the season, while scoring three runs to pace the Senators.  

 

Sophomore outfielder Adam Milligan contributed three singles, Cordell smacked his first homer at Walters State to go along with a single while Will Skinner also belted his first homer as a Senator.

 

Freshman Cody Hawn chipped in two singles while Wierzbicki added a two-bagger.

 

Freshman Austin Bridgewater (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief of starter Spencer Clifft to capture the win. The former Morristown West standout struck out two hitters.

 

Walters State returns to action Friday in opening a three-game TJCCAA series at Jackson State. Scheduled start time is 3 p.m.
