Baseball Sets Home Run Record

, Tennessee – The third-ranked Walters State baseball team set a school record Friday for most homers during the regular season as the Senators belted 11 round-trippers, giving them 121 on the season, breaking the old mark of 118 which was set in 2006.
In the first game of a TJCCAA doubleheader against Motlow State, Walters State walloped eight homers, including two each from sophomore Adam Milligan and freshman Kyle Koeneman, en route to an 18-5 win. In the second contest, Koeneman, Cody Hawn and Myles Cordell each homered in the Senators’ 9-2 triumph.
With the sweep of the twinbill, Walters State improved to 42-6 overall and 21-3 in the conference while the Bucks fell to 11-28, 5-15.
The first game saw Milligan add a double to go with his two homers and finish with five RBIs. Koeneman had a single to go with his two round-trippers and tallied three RBIs.
Freshman Will Skinner homered, doubled and singled while sophomore Adam Stooksberry homered and singled twice. Hawn finished with a homer and a single, Jon Dalton also smacked a round-tripper while Alex McClure singled twice.
Freshman Chad Bell ran his record to 10-1 by pitching 5 2/3 innings. The former Knoxville South-Doyle product gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out six and walking three.
In the second game, Koeneman swatted his third homer of the day and 16th in his last 18 games. Hawn chipped in a homer, double and single while Cordell netted his third homer of the season.
Stooksberry and freshman Dylan Pratt each had a double in the win.
Sophomore David Francis (9-1) went the distance to earn the mound victory. Francis gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking one.
