Baseball Slams Columbia State
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee — The second-ranked Walters State baseball team continued its record-setting pace for homers in a season by adding eight more Saturday in a twinbill sweep of Columbia State.
The Senators swatted four round-trippers in the first game, a 12-2 victory in five innings. In the second game, Walters State added four more homers, giving them 101 for the season, en route to a 15-5 triumph, also in five innings.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Senators are 37-6 overall and 18-3 in the TJCCAA while the Chargers fell to 18-15, 9-12.
The first game saw Walters State get homers from Adam Stooksberry, Adam Milligan, Chad Hunter and Kyle Koeneman.
Stooksberry also had a double in the win. Cody Hawn chipped in a double and a single while Dylan Pratt singled twice.
Freshman Chad Bell went all five innings to push his season worksheet to 9-1. The lefthander gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out five and walking two.
In the second game, Stooksberry launched a pair of homers in the second inning, giving him 11 on the campaign.
Freshman Alex McClure added a double and two singles in the win. Nick Langley and Will Skinner each homered and singled while Milligan doubled and singled.
Sophomore David Francis (8-1) worked five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking three.
The Senators and Chargers complete their three-game series Sunday with a nine-inning contest. Scheduled start time is 12 p.m.
