Baseball Wins Series Versus Dyersburg

MORRISTOWN, Tennessee — The Walters State baseball set the school record for homers in a season Saturday and needed each and every one of them.

The second-ranked Senators walloped five round-trippers, with Adam Stooksberry’s three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning capping an eight-run outburst, en route to a 14-12 win over Dyersburg State at Senator Field.

Walters State, with the victory, improved to 47-7 overall and 24-4 in the TJCCAA. The Eagles fell to 32-13, 20-8.

The five homers by the Senators give them 143, breaking the old mark of 138, which was set during their national championship season in 2006.

Freshman sensation Kyle Koeneman swatted the record-breaking homer in the second inning. Koeneman added another homer later in the contest and now has 25 on the season, which leads the nation and is one away from tying the school record of 26 (Tary Scott – 1984, Greg Ehmig – 1985).

Sophomore Adam Milligan and freshman Dylan Pratt also homered in the contest.

Stooksberry contributed two singles to go with his homer for Walters State. Pratt had a double to go along with his homer while Milligan chipped in a single to go with his round-tripper. Milligan extended his hitting streak to 18 games.

Sophomore Coty Woods (7-1) tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win. Woods gave up three hits while striking out five.

Walters State returns to the diamond when they invade Pioneer Park in Greeneville for a doubleheader with Tusculum College Tuesday. First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 4 p.m.
