Diamond Senators Rack Up Awards
COLUMBIA, Tennessee — The nation’s second-ranked baseball team, the Walters State Senators, racked up all of the major awards from the TJCCAA before the start of the NJCAA Region VII tournament.
Freshman third baseman Cody Hawn was named as Player of the Year, freshman Chad Bell was selected as Pitcher of the Year while freshman Kyle Koeneman was honored as Freshman of the Year.
In addition, Walters State’s Ken Campbell was chosen as Coach of the Year.
Hawn, a former standout at South-Doyle, enters postseason play with a .419 batting average to go along with 19 homers and 66 RBIs.
Bell, who also played his prep baseball at South-Doyle, is 10-1 on the season with a ERA of 3.61. In conference action, the lefthander is 8-1 with a 3.31 ERA.
Koeneman, the former All-State performer from Seymour, is hitting .425 with 25 round-trippers, which is tied for the most in the nation.
Hawn, Bell and Koeneman were also selected to the TJCCAA first-team all conference as was sophomore outfielder Adam Milligan (.400, 16 HR, 52 RBI).
Five Senators were named to the second team, Sophomores Adam Stooksberry and Nick Langley were joined on the squad by freshmen Chad Hunter, Dylan Pratt and Jesse Wierzbicki. On the third team was sophomore pitcher David Francis and freshman outfielder Will Skinner.
