Diamond Senators Win Region VII Tournament
COLUMBIA, Tennessee — Sophomore first baseman Adam Stooksberry slammed a pair of homers and drove in five runs as No. 2 Walters State won the NJCAA Region VII baseball tournament Wednesday with a 15-9 win over Volunteer State at Columbia State.
With the win, the Senators improved to 52-7 and earned a berth in the East/Central district tournament next week against the winner of the Georgia tournament.
Walters State trailed 9-8 heading into the bottom of the seventh when they erupted for five runs. Stooksberry belted a two-run homer in the outburst while sophomore outfielder Adam Milligan extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a two-run single.
Stooksberry also had a pair of singles to go with his two homers. Nick Langley singled three times, Will Skinner added two singles while Kyle
Koeneman and Cody Hawn each homered. The Senators now have 151 homers this season.
Freshman catcher Dylan Pratt walked four times and singled, scoring four runs for the winners.
Sophomore Coty Woods (8-1) pitched four innings in relief of starter Chad Bell to collect the mound win. Woods gave up three runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two.
