Milligan & Francis Propel Baseball To Win

COLUMBIA, Tennessee – Sophomores Adam Milligan and David Francis shouldered the load late Sunday night in the NJCAA Region VII baseball tournament for the nation’s No. 2 team, the Walters State Senators.

Milligan homered twice and tripled, driving in a career-high eight runs and extending his hitting streak to 20 games, while Francis tossed a three-hitter as the Senators disposed of Chattanooga State, 10-1, at Columbia State.

The victory puts Walters State at 49-7 on the season and in a matchup with Dyersburg State Monday at 7 p.m. eastern time.

After going hitless in his first two at-bats against the Tigers, Milligan got untracked in the fifth with a two-run triple. The Vanderbilt University signee added three-run homers in the seventh and ninth innings.

Freshman outfielder Chad Hunter singled three times and scored four runs in the win while fellow freshman Cody Hawn chipped in a pair of singles.

Francis, now 11-1 on the season, went the distance, striking out 11 batters while walking five.
