Senators Clip Chargers, 13-12
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee — Sophomore Adam Milligan raced home to score on a wild pitch while freshman Kyle Koeneman blasted two more homers as the No. 3 Walters State baseball team clipped Columbia State, 13-12, Sunday afternoon at Senator Field.
With the win, the Senators improved to 38-6 overall and 19-3 in the TJCCAA while the Chargers fell to 18-16, 9-12.
With the score knotted at 11 and Milligan on third base, Columbia State elected to attempt to intentionally walk Koeneman. The first pitch sailed past the catcher, allowing Milligan to scamper home.
On the next pitch, Koeneman smacked his second homer of the day. The former All-State performer from Seymour now has 13 homers in his last 15 games and a total of 18 for the season.
Also homering for the Senators Sunday were freshmen Chad Hunter, Will Skinner and Cody Hawn.
Hunter, Hawn and Koeneman each finished with three hits for Walters State while Skinner and Nick Langley each had two hits. Hawn, Milligan, Langley and sophomore Adam Stooksberry each had a double.
Sophomore Coty Woods (4-1) worked 1 1/3 innings in relief to gain the mound decision.
The Senators return to the diamond Tuesday in a non-conference road doubleheader at Wilkes (N.C.) Community College. Scheduled start time is 1 p.m.
