Senators Take Game Two In Grand Junction
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Walters State baseball team used a nine-run outburst in the eighth inning to break open a close game en route to a 14-4 bashing of Connors (Ok.) State Sunday afternoon in the 2008 JUCO World Series.
With the win, the Senators improved to 55-8 on the season and meet Central Arizona Monday at noon eastern in another elimination contest.
Carrying the offensive load for Walters State Sunday was freshman third baseman Cody Hawn and sophomore outfielder Adam Milligan. Hawn had two homers and a double, driving in three runs. Milligan also homered twice, which extended his hitting streak to 27 games, and finished with a team-high four RBIs.
In addition to the numbers posted by Hawn and Milligan, the Senators got two-run doubles in the eighth innings from freshmen Will Skinner and Alex McClure.
Sophomore righthander David Francis went the distance for Walters State. Francis gave up four runs on nine hits while striking out eight and walking four in improving his record to 13-1 on the season.
