Diamond Senators Sweep Hiwassee
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee – The second-ranked Walters State baseball team swept a TJCCAA doubleheader from Hiwassee College Sunday afternoon at Senator Field by the scores of 2-1 and 4-3.
With the twinbill sweep, the Senators are 19-3 overall and 11-0 in the TJCCAA.
In the opener, freshman lefthander Chad Bell ran his record to 5-0 with the complete-game win. Bell gave up one run on two hits while walking two and striking out seven.
Sophomores Adam Milligan and Nick Langley each had a double and a single for Walters State. Freshman Kyle Koeneman drove in one run with a double while fellow freshman Chad Hunter plated the other run with a bases-loaded walk.
In the second game, Hunter scored the tiebreaking run in the bottom of the sixth on a rundown play.
Freshman Dylan Pratt led the offense with a double and a single. Sophomore Adam Stooksberry contributed a pair of RBI singles while Hunter also singled twice.
Sophomore David Francis (5-1) worked three innings in relief of starter Nick Fuller to collect the mound decision. The righthander gave up two hits while striking out two and walking one.
Walters State returns to the diamond Tuesday with a twinbill at Tennessee Wesleyan. Scheduled start time is 1 p.m.
