Win Streak For Baseball Ends At 10

JACKSON, Tennessee – The 10-game winning streak for the second-ranked Walters State baseball team came to an end Friday in the first game of a TJCCAA doubleheader against Jackson State.

 

The Generals tagged the Senators with a 4-2 defeat in the opener, handing highly-touted freshman Chad Bell his first loss of the season. In the second game, Walters State rapped out nine hits for extra bases to go along with a complete-game from Nick Fuller en route to a 9-4 triumph.

 

With the twinbill split, the Senators are 22-4 overall and 12-1 in the TJCCAA.

 

The second game saw freshman Jesse Wierzbicki collect two doubles and a single while scoring three runs. Sophomore Adam Milligan added a homer, his sixth of the season, to go along with a double, freshman Cody Hawn smacked his eighth homer and added a single, freshman Will Skinner tripled and doubled while freshman Chad Hunter connected on his sixth homer of the year.

 

Reaping the benefits of the offensive explosion was Fuller. The righthander allowed four runs in the first inning but held the Generals scoreless the remainder of the way. He gave up four hits while striking out 10 and walking four.

 

In the opener, the Senators jumped on the board first as Skinner walloped a two-run homer, his second, in the second inning. Jackson State tallied single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

 

Hawn had two singles in the defeat for Walters State. Bell (5-1) went five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out five. David Francis pitched the sixth inning.
