LADY SENATORS DROP HARD-FOUGHT BATTLE WITH LADY TIGERS

CHATTANOOGA - No. 15 Walters State (18-4, 6-2) put up a valiant effort, but fell short on the road against TJCCAA Eastern Division rival Chattanooga State, 58-55, Saturday afternoon.
 
"This was one of those games you hate to see either team lose," Lady Senators' coach Dave Kragel said. "I thought both teams played hard. Chattanooga State ended up with three more points that we did."
 
The Lady Tigers (14-3, 6-2) made three free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory.
 
For Walters State, sophomore forward Dana Garrett (Woodland, S.C.) pumped in 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while freshman guard Rhon'Neisha Taylor (Nashville) added 10 points.
 
Chattanooga State was led in scoring by Latrice Boyman with 16 points while Charnette Davis tallied 11.
 
In the contest, the Lady Senators were 23-of-57 from the field (2-of-12 on 3-point attempts) for 40.4 percent while sinking 7-of-10 free throws.
 
The Lady Tigers were 22-of-52 from the floor (2-of-9 from 3-point range) for 42.3 percent while hitting 12-of-20 charity tosses.
 
Walters State returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 30 on the road at Roane State. Scheduled start time is 6 p.m.
