Lady Senators Wallop Hiwassee, 86-40
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee – The No. 14 Walters State women's basketball team send their sophomores out on a winning note in their final regular-season home game Wednesday night with an 86-40 thrashing of Hiwassee at 'Z' Buda Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Lady Senators clinched the Eastern Division title of the TJCCAA and improved to 25-4 overall, 13-2 in conference. The sophomore class of Sienna Forney, Megan Rollins, Tiffany Travis, Dana Garrett, Jasmin Coleman and Nakisha Strickland are currently 48-16 during their tenure as Lady Senators.
Garrett and Rollins each tallied 12 points for Walters State while freshman guard Allysia Bailey netted 10 points off the bench. The Lady Senators had 14 of their 15 players dent the scoring column with no player playing more than 23 minutes.
Walters State finished the contest 39-of-84 from the floor (2-of-16 on 3-pointers) for 46.4 percent while making 6-of-12 free throws. The Lady Senators outrebounded Hiwassee 40-22, including 24 on the offensive end and forced the Lady Tigers into a staggering 36 turnovers.
Sabra Lawson led Hiwassee in scoring with 11 points.
Walters State concludes the regular season Saturday with a road game at Motlow State. Scheduled start time is 3 p.m.
