Lady Senators Win At Caldwell CC

HUDSON, N.C. – The Lady Senators are ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Div. 1 polls, and are No. 14 in the country in team defense.  They defended that ranking at Caldwell Community College with a 67-40 win over the Div. 3 No. 6 ranked Lady Cobras Friday.  It was the first game of a two-game road trip for the Lady Senators.

Proving their defensive prowess, the Lady Senators held the Lady Cobras to 18 percent field goal shooting for the game and just 17 second half points.  The Lady Cobras were just 1-16 from the beyond the 3-point arc. 

Nakisha Strickland led the scoring for the Lady Senators with nine points.  Sienna Forney had eight points and Chantel Johnson added seven.  Johnson hauled in 11 boards in the contest.

“This was a good win against a ranked team,” said Dave Kragel. “Sienna had a huge game for us.  This is the best I have seen her play since the national tournament in Salina (Kan.).  Her defense was solid.  Chantel had a great game for us.  She fought for rebounds all night.”

For the Lady Cobras, Robin Waddell led all score with 13.  Kara Hawkins chipped in eight points and Candi Taylor added seven points. 

The Lady Senators travel to Louisburg College to play the Lady Hurricanes on Saturday.

The will return to play at home Monday, Jan. 14 when they host the Lady Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the “Z” Buda Assembly Hall and Gymnasium.
