SALINA, Kan. – The Lady Senators’ season came to a close Thursday with a 74-59 loss to the Lady Buccaneers of Shelton State Community College (Tuscaloosa, Ala.).  The Lady Senators finish the season 25-12.

The Lady Senators trailed by as many as 13 points early in the first half, but trailed by only six at the break.  Kristi Martin led the Lady Bucs with 12.   Jasmin Coleman led the Lady Senators with nine including a 3-pointer.  With four minutes remaining in the half, the Lady Senators closed the gap to two.

“We made a strong come back in the first half,” said WSCC head coach Dave Kragel.  “We got into a rhythm on offense and made some stops on defense.  Then we just forgot how to play “our” game.”

The Lady Senators were held to just two field goals in the first six minutes of the second half, and the Lady Bucks jumped to an 18 point lead.  Martin and Kandace Orr started the rally for the Lady Bucs .  Orr finished with 22 points.  She was 10-13 from the floor and 2-2 from the charity stripe.  Martin poured in 21 points.

“We never could get any offense going,” said Kragel.  “We didn’t shoot the ball well at all.  We shot 33 percent from the floor.  You can’t win ball games, especially here, shooting numbers like that.”

Coleman led the Lady Senators with 11.  She was 5-11 from the floor and 1-3 from the foul line.  Dana Garrett had nine points and nine boards.

“I will say this about my team,” said Kragel.  “They never quit.  They all kept playing like it was a tied ball game.  I am very proud of the progress this team made through the season.  They worked hard to get here and they worked hard while they were here.  I told them to keep their heads up; they should be proud of themselves.”
