Lady Senators Win Round One Of TJCCAA
GALLATIN – Dana Garrett recorded a double-double in the 57-50 win in the TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII basketball tournament at Volunteer State. Lady Senators beat the Hiwassee College Lady Tigers and move on to play Saturday, March 10 at 3 p.m. EST against the Southwest Tennessee Community College Lady Saluqis.
The Lady Senators led by 10 at the break behind Krysta Kadlitz who led the scoring for WSCC with seven first half points. Danique Jones buried a pair of 3-pointers. Angie Wells led at halftime for Hiwassee with 10.
Garrett was 4-9 form the floor and had eight defensive and four offensive rebounds in the contest. Jones tallied 12 points. Jasmine Coleman had two 3-pointers and finished 12 points.
“Obviously, this is a good win for us,” said WSCC head coach Dave Kragel. “We played hard tonight and kept the pressure on defense.”
The Lady Tigers had a big game from Wells she finished with 23 points and four assists. Holly Hudson sank four 3-pointers for her 12 points. Aisha Elder pulled down seven boards.
In a ceremony immediately following the game, two Lady Senators received post season honors. Garrett and Nakisha Strickland were named to All-Eastern Division Team. Garrett was also named to the All-TJCCAA Team.
