Softball Opens Season With Two Wins

AIKEN, S.C. – The Walters State softball team, ranked 29th in the nation, opened the season Friday with a pair of victories in the Aiken Tech tournament.

 

The Lady Senators, in their first game of the day, turned back Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.), 2-0, as winning hurler Alyssa Shoun allowed just two hits.

 

Freshman Britani Fisher had a double and a single in the win for Walters State. Miranda Tounzen doubled and drove in both runs while Brittney Furr also added a two-bagger.

 

In their second game, the Lady Senators held off Gordon (Ga.) College, 8-6, as freshman India Ellison collected her first win.

 

Tounzen was the hitting star as she homered, singled and drove in three runs. Shoun, Furr and Gina Loflin each added a double in the win.
