Softball Splits With Columbia State

MORRISTOWN, Tennessee – Freshman Alyssa Shoun tossed a three-hitter while accounting for the game’s only runs with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning as Walters State defeated Columbia State, 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at the Lady Senator Softball Complex.

 

In the second game, the Lady Senators were held to two hits as the Lady Chargers earned a split of the twinbill with a 4-2 decision. With the twinbill split, Walters State is 20-11 overall and 4-2 in the TJCCAA while Columbia State is 20-10, 1-3.

 

Shoun, in the first game, didn’t walk a batter while improving her mound record to 9-6 on the season. Sophomores Miranda Tounzen and Lauren Mynatt each singled as did freshman Gina Loflin.

 

The second game saw the Lady Senators receive a solo homer from Loflin and a single from freshman Brittany Dixon in the loss. Freshman Brittany Hill was tagged with the mound defeat, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.

 

Walters State is back in action Sunday when Jackson State comes to Morristown for a TJCCAA twinbill. Scheduled start time is 1 p.m.
