Softball Splits With Hiwassee

MADISONVILLE, Tennessee – The Walters State softball team got four hits apiece from sophomore Miranda Tounzen and freshman Gina Loflin en route to a 9-1 victory over Hiwassee in the first game of a TJCCAA doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

 

In the nightcap, the Lady Tigers held off a late rally by the Lady Senators to secure a 7-6 win and a split of the twinbill.

 

Walters State is now 29-14 overall and 12-4 in the conference while Hiwassee is 9-38, 4-16.

 

Tounzen had two doubles and two singles in the first game while Loflin added a double and three singles.

 

Freshman Alyssa Shoun scattered eight hits in earning the mound win.

 

In the second game, Tounzen, Britani Fisher and Brittney Furr each had a double in the losing effort for the Lady Senators.

 

Freshman Brittany Hill was tagged with the mound setback.

 

Walters State returns to action Thursday at the Lady Senator Softball Complex in a TJCCAA doubleheader against Chattanooga State. Scheduled start time is 2 p.m.
