Softball Splits With Spartanburg Methodist

MORRISTOWN, Tennessee – Freshman Alyssa Shoun’s three-run homer in the fourth inning pushed the Walters State softball team in front to stay in a 4-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Spartanburg Methodist Wednesday afternoon at the Lady Senator Softball Complex.

 

In the opener, the Lady Senators were on the short end of a 6-0 decision. With the split of the twinbill, Walters State is now 15-10 on the season.

 

The second game saw the Lady Senators trailing 3-1 when Shoun’s round-tripper put the home team in front for good. It was Shoun’s lone hit in the contest.

 

Sophomore Lauren Mynatt also homered for Walters State while freshman Gina Loflin doubled. Freshman India Ellison (5-2) earned the mound decision, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out six and walking six.

 

In the first game, the Lady Senators’ bats were silenced by Spartanburg Methodist pitcher Chelsi Edwards, who gave up four hits while striking out eight and walking one.

 

Loflin collected three singles in the losing effort. Shoun (6-6) was tagged with the pitching defeat as she gave up six runs (four earned) on11 hits while striking out 1 season-high 12 batters and walking four.

 

Walters State returns to action Friday in a TJCCAA road doubleheader at Dyersburg State. Scheduled start time is 2 p.m.
