Softball Sweeps Dyersburg State
DYERSBURG, Tennessee – The Walters State softball team erupted for 31 runs Friday in sweeping a TJCCAA twinbill from homestanding Dyersburg State.
In the opener, freshman Alyssa Shoun (7-6) tossed a one-hitter as the Lady Senators rolled to an 11-0 win in five innings while in the second game, Shoun and fellow freshman Kayla Waggoner each walloped a grand slam en route to a 20-0 decision in six innings.
With the sweep of the doubleheader, Walters State improved to 17-10 overall and 3-1 in the TJCCAA while the Lady Eagles fell to 4-8, 0-2.
Sophomore Miranda Tounzen banged out two singles and a double in the first game, driving in three runs. Shoun, sophomore Lauren Mynatt and freshman Britani Fisher each doubled.
In the second contest, Shoun had two singles and a triple to go along with her grand slam and finished with six RBIs. Waggoner chipped in a single to go with her grand slam while Mynatt contributed a two-bagger.
Freshman Brittany Hill (5-2) gave up two hits in six innings to record the mound win.
The Lady Senators return to the diamond Saturday in a TJCCAA twinbill at Southwest Tennessee. Scheduled start time is 1 p.m.
