Softball Splits With Hiwassee

MORRISTOWN, Tennessee — The Walters State softball team captured a pair of non-conference wins Wednesday afternoon against Hiwassee at the Lady Senator Softball Complex.

 

The Lady Senators netted a 4-0 win in the opener while taking a 3-2 decision in the second game. With the sweep, Walters State is now 19-10 on the season.

 

In the opener, freshman Alyssa Shoun twirled a one-hitter while striking out eight and walking one to improve her record to 8-6 on the season.

 

Sophomore Miranda Tounzen homered and singled for the Lady Senators, driving in three runs. Fellow sophomore Lauren Mynatt added a double.

 

The second game saw Walters State push across a pair of runs in the fifth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and collect the twinbill sweep.

 

Tounzen doubled twice for the Lady Senators, Gina Loflin added a double and a single while Brittany Dixon singled twice. Shoun added a two-bagger in the victory.

 

Freshman Brittany Hill (6-2) picked up the win in relief of starter India Ellison.

 

Walters State returns to action Saturday against Jackson State in a home doubleheader. Scheduled start time is 3 p.m.
