Statement of Purpose:
The college offers a well planned and well managed
program of student development services and activities which
intercollegiate athletics is an integral part. The college's
primary goal relative to intercollegiate athletics is to maintain a
successful intercollegiate athletic program as an integral part of
the total education program within the framework and policies set
forth by the Tennessee Board of Regents. Also, the athletic
program is managed in accordance with the rules and regulations of
the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association and
the National Junior College Athletics Association.
The college believes that a well balanced and
efficiently managed athletic program of the highest quality based on
both student and community needs contributes to the personal and
processional growth of each participant as well as fulfilling the
desires and expectation of students in general and the community at
large. Consistent with this belief, the college strives to
maintain a successful athletic program with participants from the
region which the college is designed to server, recognizing that
extenuating circumstances on a limited basis participants may come
from outside the college's primary region. Also, even though
intercollegiate athletics are offered primarily for individuals
possessing above average physical skills, the college puts forth
every effort to ensure that equal opportunities are provided for the
various segments of the student population.
As a member of the T.J.C.C.A.A. and N.J.C.A.A., the
college presently fields teams in men's and women's basketball,
baseball, women's softball, and golf. The college desires to
continue affiliating with these associations and to continue
participating in these sports, but only if high levels of quality
can be maintained and degrees of competitiveness can be met
