Catalog Description:
This course develops proficiency in alphanumeric keyboarding skills needed for inputting
on electronic typewriters, microprocessors, word processors and computer terminals. Credit
is assigned on a Pass/Fail basis.
Prerequisites: None
COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate proficiently using the touch method of keyboarding for:
A. The alphabetic keyboard
B. The figure keys in the top row of the keyboard
C. The symbol keys in the top row of the keyboard
D. The 10-key numeric pad
2. Format basic communications
A. Business letters-block style
B. Simplified interoffice memorandums
3. Format unbound reports
4. Format columns
5. Demonstrate ability to use and to understand proofreaders marks
6. Key approximately 25 WPM on alphabetic straight copy material
Evaluation
Credit is awarded on a Pass/Fail basis. To pass the course, the entire program must be
completed with verification by the instructor that the student types at a rate of
approximately 25 gross words a minute on alphabetic straight copy material using the
"touch" method for keyboarding.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Students who have excused absences must complete make-up work within two weeks.
Students should attend the first day of class or contact the instructor prior to the first
class. Failure to do this may result in being dropped from class. Plagiarism, cheating and
other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited. |
