The Associate of Science degree in Business at Walters State Community College is designed to fulfill freshman and sophomore level course requirements
for a bachelor’s degree in business. At the junior and senior levels, students

Career and Major Information:
Economists study how society uses resources to develop goods
and services. They research and analyze data, study wage and product levels,
and monitor economic trends. They develop methods for obtaining economic data,
and they may provide economic analysis for the media. Many economists
specialize.
Industrial and organizational economists study the market
structure and decisions of particular industries.
Macroeconomists study the economy as a whole and look at
unemployment, inflation, economic growth, productivity, and investment.
Monetary economists study the banking system and interest
rates.
International economists study exchange and trade rates.
Labor economists study labor, market, and employment trends.
Public finance economists study the role of government and
its effects on the economy.
Econometricians use mathematical techniques to formulate
economic models.
Many economists work for the government, large industries,
or in education.

Median annual wage and salary earnings of economists were
$68,550 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $50,560 and $90,710. The
lowest 10 percent earned less than $38,690, and the highest 10 percent earned
more than $120,440.
