The Associate of Arts degree in Women’s Studies at Walters
State Community College is designed to fulfill the freshman and sophomore level
course requirements of a bachelor’s degree; however, the curriculum is not
specific to a particular college or university. A student will need to consult
a WSCC faculty advisor or an advisor at the intended transfer institution to

Career and Major Information:
The Women’s Studies major has an interdisciplinary, liberal arts focus.
The fields of gender equality, class, race, sexuality, and ethnicity are
explored from a cross-cultural focus; courses are taken from the humanities,
natural sciences, and social sciences. Women’s studies majors seek to
understand intellectual frameworks that have shaped social and political
policies through the evolution of civilizations and religions. Women’s
contributions to the family, the community, and society are examined. These
courses are designed to teach students critical thinking, analytical skills,
and oral and written expression, skills that are applicable to several
employment fields. Women’s Studies majors have sought careers in many
different areas, some of which are listed below.
