Career and Major Information:

Walters State's two-year concentration in Greenhouse Management is designed to prepare successful graduates for entry-level employment in the field of greenhouse production and management and landscapingDuties may primarily include the business aspects of running a business that grows and provides trees, shrubs, flowers, ornamental plants, and vegetables for sale, such as hiring and supervising workers, establishing output goals, determining financial constraints, monitoring production and marketing, determining inventory transportation and storage requirements, and overseeing maintenance of the property and equipment.  Managers will also choose which types of plants to grow based on environmental and marketing factors as well as what types of growing environments (greenhouse, hothouse, or natural) their chosen plants will require.  The selection and purchase of seeds, fertilizers/nutrients, and chemicals to prevent and treat plant diseases is also typically a managerial duty.  Along with the growing and landscaping services, they may also be responsible for educating customers on proper planting and care techniques.
