News Briefs College signs agreement with U.S. Navy Walters State has signed an articulation agreement with the United States Navy, allowing Navy personnel to earn an associate of applied science degree in electrical/electronics or manufacturing. The agreement enables those who are in the Navy to receive college credit for military training and experience in nine Navy rating areas including submarine ratings.      Walters State has the distinction of being the first college in the nation to award a degree with the submarine ratings. SIFE wins region For the tenth time in 13 years, Walters State’s Students in Free Enterprise team has won the regional championship. The  team made its multimedia presentation to 250 corporate executives at the international competition in Kansas City. The presentation explained the projects undertaken by the group this year in their efforts to educate the community and students. More than 900 earn degrees and certificates in 2000 Walters State awarded over 900 two-year associate degrees and one-year program certificates at the college’s com- mencement ceremony on May 6 and certificate ceremony on May 4. Members of the class of 2000 received 303 associate of arts and associate of science degrees, awarded in university parallel programs for transfer to four-year colleges and universities; as well as 290 associate of applied science degrees in technical career programs, which are preparation for immediate entry into careers and 309 short-term academic and program certificates. Nursing enrolls the largest number of students at the college. This year 99 individuals earned A.A.S degrees in nursing.
