PURPOSE:

The Developmental Reading program assists students in developing the ability to read effectively, recognize different purposes and methods of writing, differentiate personal opinions and assumptions from a writer's opinions and assumptions, use texts and reference materials and develop a functional college-level vocabulary.  Developmental Reading courses are intended to help students develop the ability to read effectively at a level necessary to successfully complete college-level studies.
