REPORTING SENIOR:
Head, Department of Industrial Technology
JOB OBJECTIVES: Develop and teach a variety of industrial
technology courses, with a primary focus in general manufacturing processes
and practices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and teach courses in industrial technology in support of the
department’s manufacturing, drafting and design, and electromechanical
technology concentrations, in accordance with advisory committee input
and NAIT accreditation standards.
- Prepare course syllabi and course materials, evaluate student
learning, and maintain class records as defined.
- Participate in curriculum development, budget planning, student
recruitment, student advisement, placement, departmental meetings, and
college committees as directed.
- Develop and deliver distance education coursework as required,
including hands-on lab applications.
- Perform job functions in accordance with the institution’s
established policies and procedures manual.
- Manage curricula in accordance with all standards defined by
applicable accrediting bodies. This includes regular identification,
validation, and assessment of program competencies and alterations to
curriculum based on said assessments.
- Serve as a mentor and advocate to students participating in the
industrial technology program.
- Work as part of a cohesive team comprised of fellow faculty,
supporting technicians, and all other entities of the college as
required.
- Assume ownership of advisory committee activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB STANDARDS:
- Master's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or
industrial technology with a concentration in mechanical, manufacturing,
or industrial engineering or technology from a regionally accredited
institution is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in these areas with a
strong educational and work background in industrial electricity and/or
electronics, along with graduate course work in a program leading to a
Master’s degree in engineering or technology will be considered.
Bachelor’s degree candidates will be expected to develop a plan and
begin work toward a qualifying Master’s degree if hired.
- Teaching experience in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial
engineering or technology is preferred.
- Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college
philosophy.
- Experience in the following areas is required:
· Operations management, including
safety, quality assurance, human relations, industrial safety, and
industrial costs and measures.
· General knowledge of industrial
materials and the myriad of processes used to transfer these materials
into usable goods and services. General knowledge in the areas of
strengths of materials and materials testing methods are also required.
· Knowledge of manual and CNC
milling and turning processes.
E. Experience in one or more of the
following areas is preferred:
· Mechanical power
transmission
· Hydraulics and pneumatics
· Basic welding
· Industrial pumps and piping
· Millwright principles
F. Knowledge of course delivery through
information technology methods preferred.
G. Knowledge of and ability to manage and
develop hands-on laboratory exercises to
simulate industrial practices and applications is essential.
JOB LOCATION: The primary job location is the college's campus in
Morristown, TN. Classes may also be taught at other off-campus locations
within the college's ten county service area, or via distance education
technologies.
EQUIPMENT: Primary functions require knowledge in the use of
basic hand and power tools, computer equipment, multi-media equipment,
manual and CNC machining equipment, materials testing equipment, industrial
processing equipment, and related manufacturing equipment. Secondary
functions require knowledge in the use of power transmission alignment
equipment, vibration analysis equipment, rigging equipment, and power
transmission test equipment.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: The primary function requires teaching
competence in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering or
technology, competency in PC computer systems, ability to communicate
effectively and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with
students, faculty and staff. Secondary functions include the same critical
skills in the area of industrial mechanics as outlined above.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Marginal tasks performed include the
operation of standard office equipment.
SALARY: Negotiable, according to the salary guide of the college
and individual qualifications.
