SENIOR: Webmaster/ Network
Specialist
JOB OBJECTIVE:
Develop and maintain WSCC web sites and support and maintain related
systems infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in developing and
implementing standards and procedures for the WSCC Web sites.
- Develop, manage, and execute
projects relating to the college’s web sites.
- Perform systems configuration,
installation, and support.
- Install a wide variety of hardware
including SCSI hard drives, memory, CD-ROMS, motherboards, network
cards, printers, scanners, and network equipment.
- Provide assistance to faculty and
students in support of online classes and content management
systems.
- Perform assigned duties without
direct supervision.
- Perform duties outside normal
working hours in order to minimize the impact on users.
- Must be able to respond quickly to
resolve system problems after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB STANDARDS:
- Formal training/education and
experience relevant to the position. Bachelor’s degree is
required and higher degrees will be given special consideration.
- Candidates with current MCP, MCSA,
MCSE, CCNA or higher certifications will be given special
consideration.
- Ability to effectively use,
configure, secure, and support Windows and Unix (Sun Solaris or
Linux) operating systems.
- Knowledge of standard web practices
and procedures, with a clear understanding of web based systems
and technology based on Microsoft IIS, Apache, and other widely
used web servers.
- Programming and scripting experience
(ASP, ASP.NET, .NET Platform, XML, PHP, Java, and SQL).
- Experience with database design and
management using Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Access, and other database
systems.
- Demonstrated ability to understand
DNS operations and other network protocols in support of daily job
functions.
- Demonstrated ability to understand
and apply systems security, system hardening, and security
analysis.
- Ability to effectively manage the
functions and details essential to the efficient operation of web
systems and related components.
- Ability to establish and maintain an
effective working relationship with others.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a
resource for developing and implementation of instructional
opportunities via the Internet.
- Evidence of successful ability to
work independently with minimal supervision, to establish goals
and objectives, and to place priorities on work to be completed
and to independently execute those tasks.
- Ability to follow and implement
instructions of a moderately complex nature.
- Ability to focus on mission-critical
essential functions of the job and organize work in an efficient
manner.
JOB LOCATION:
The primary job location is the college’s main campus in Morristown,
TN.
EQUIPMENT:
Daily use of servers, personal computers, switches, security
appliances, software, storage systems, and other equipment as
required.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE:
Ability to efficiently manage the functions and details essential to
the efficient operation of WSCC web sites and supporting hardware.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal
relationships with others. The successful candidate must also possess
the ability to apply logical problem solving skills in an organized
and effective manner. Ability to lift and transport servers, computer
terminals, microcomputers, printers, and network equipment.
SALARY:
Negotiable, according to the salary guide of the college and
individual qualifications.
