REPORTING SENIOR: Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs
JOB OBJECTIVES: To provide academic and instructional
tutoring
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct an informal intake of each student that requests
tutoring services.
- Assist students with defining academic areas of weakness and
define strategies for success.
- Tutor students individually in one or more subject areas. Tutor
participants referred by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
program.
- Develop and maintain contact with instructors at least four
times each semester.
- Keep detailed progress records on each student receiving
tutoring and report to Center for Workforce
- Development (CWD) on WIA student attendance and progress.
- Discuss with each student his/her progress or lack of success.
- Work with students to increase better comprehension and mastery
of course content and material to the best of his/her ability.
- Schedule a weekly meeting with supervisor to discuss activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB STANDARDS:
- Associate of Science degree or successful completion of 60 hours
of college credit from a regionally accredited institution.
- Ability to work with students, faculty and peers.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of tutoring strategies at high school or college
level.
- Comprehensive computer skills.
JOB LOCATION: The primary job location is the main campus
in Morristown, Tennessee.
EQUIPMENT: Telephone, computer equipment printer, fax and
other standard office equipment are required. Applicant must possess a
valid driver’s license.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: Knowledge of learning
techniques; the ability to communicate effectively; and the ability to
establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with
students, faculty and staff.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Marginal tasks performed include
the operation of standard office equipment such as typewriter and copy
machines.
SALARY: Negotiable, according to the salary guide of the
college and individual qualifications.
