Walters State’s Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts plans four community interest classes this fall: “Wedding Cake Construction and Assembly;” “Fall Decoration and Easy Entertaining;” “Holiday Party Planning;” and “Italian Cuisine.” Classes will be held on the Sevier County Campus.
The courses may be taken for college credit, or may just be audited. Auditing a class allows community members to learn and participate without worrying about a grade. The cost for each class is approximately $216. Individuals who have not taken a class at Walters State will also need to pay a nonrefundable $10 registration fee.
Wedding Cake Construction and Assembly will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays Sept. 8-29. Students should have a basic understanding of baking and icing cakes. This class will teach the fundamental elements to constructing a wedding cake, including leveling and stacking cakes; the correct support to stabilize cakes and decorating techniques.
Italian Cuisine meets from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 3-Nov. 7. This class is a great introduction to Italian cooking. Get hands-on training in preparing authentic sauces and pastas made from scratch along with other traditional Italian dishes.
Fall Decoration and Easy Entertaining will offer ways to take the pressure off entertaining. Transform ordinary household items into beautiful tablescapes for any occasion. Take home “no-fuss” recipes and frugal secrets to create the perfect setting and menu for any seasonal event.
Classes meet from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Holiday Party Planning will teach students how to plan fantastic holiday parties with simple seasonal food and drink recipes. Learn how to transfer everyday items into beautiful holiday decorations. Classes meet on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m.
