September 10, 2012

Walters State Community College’s Music and Theatre Department has announced its fall semester production: “Little Shop of Horrors.”
The rock musical centers around a florist who raises a plant that feeds on human flesh. The production is scheduled for November. This will be the first play directed by T.J. Kent, an instructor of theatre who just joined the college this semester.
Auditions are planned from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, and Thursday, Sept. 27, in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex on the Morristown campus. Auditions are open to the community. Those seeking to audition should memorize and perform a monologue no longer than 60 seconds. Those auditioning should also be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song. Kent said each individual may select the song he or she will perform at the audition. Bring the sheet music if possible as an accompanist will be available.
The community is also invited to a workshop on auditions from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, in the theatre on the Morristown campus. Kent will lead the workshop, which will cover student, community and professional auditions. The information is general and not specific to either Walters State productions or “The Little Shop of Horrors.”
