Walters State Courses Offered in Cocke, Hawkins
August 3, 2012

Spots are still available in Walters State Community College courses planned this fall for Cocke and Hawkins counties. Cocke County classes are held at the Ben Hooper Vocational Schedule, while classes in Hawkins County classes meet at Cherokee High School. These classes begin Aug. 27. Most classes meet from 6-9:05 p.m., although specific times are available in the college’s timetable.

In Cocke County, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra and general psychology are offered on Monday evenings. English composition I, American history I, and music appreciation are scheduled for Tuesday evenings; Computer applications and probability and statistics are on Wednesday, with speech communications and art appreciation offered on Thursday.

In Hawkins County, American history I and intro to sociology are offered on Monday evenings. General Psychology and probability and statistics meet on Tuesday nights. On Wednesday nights, speech communications and music appreciation are available, with English comp I offered on Thursday.

“Students can take many of the classes needed for an associate’s degree in general studies in Cocke or Hawkins County without driving to one of our other campuses. For example, English composition II and American history II will be among the classes offered next semester,” said Cathy Woods, executive director for distance education.

Returning students may register online through Star_NET. First-time students must first complete an application process and an orientation. Both may be done in person at any Walters State campus or online.
