Hannah Adkins may one day be diagnosing your
ills.
The freshman from Morristown is a pre-medicine
major. She has flourished during her first two semesters, getting a
great start for what will be years of medical school.
“I did
look at other colleges, but Walters State is smaller and I like the
close-knit campus,” said the pre-medicine major from Morristown.
“The professors get to know you and if you have
a question, they take the time to answer it or explain it. They give
you phone numbers and e-mails and it’s easy to get in touch with
them after class if you have a problem.”
Adkins has received near-perfect grades during
her first year, but she hasn’t spent all of her time studying. She
is a Senators Page and an active member of the Music Club. She
credits both with helping her become more outgoing.
“I’ve worked at charity events and given lots
of campus tours. Those tours have helped me come out of my shell.
I’ve made so many friends here.”
Adkins received an Academic Performance
Scholarship and the Tennessee Hope Lottery Scholarship. The lottery
scholarship almost covers the complete cost of tuition, leaving her
with money for books and other expenses.
Adkins said her inspiration for becoming a
doctor is her mom and her mom’s co-workers. Her mom is lab
technician at Hamblen Pediatrics.
“I’ve always been around the doctor’s offices, so I really didn’t
know what else to do,” she said.
