Withdrawals

Students receiving any form of financial aid should contact the Financial Aid Office prior to withdrawing to determine how the withdrawal will impact their financial aid and future eligibility.

Students are awarded Title IV assistance under the assumption that the student will attend the entire period for which assistance is awarded.  If a student withdraws officially, unofficially (ceases attendance in all registered courses for a period of enrollment without completing the official withdrawal process), or never attends, they may no longer be eligible for the amount of aid originally awarded.

Students should review the Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards and Return of Title IV Policies and Procedures before withdrawing from any course.

Scholarships and other third party sources of financial aid may have additional requirements regarding satisfactory academic progress.  Students should refer to the guidelines of the specific scholarship or third party source for additional requirements.

Withdrawal from Walters State

Students that find it necessary to withdraw from college should do so officially. Click here for instructions on how to officially withdraw from the college.

Official withdrawal

Student withdraws/drops all of the scheduled courses during a term following the withdrawal procedures as defined in the Walters State Community College Catalog/Student Handbook.

Unofficial Withdrawal

Student ceases attendance in all registered courses for a period of enrollment and fails to follow the proper withdrawal procedures as defined in the Walters State Community College Catalog/Student Handbook.

Non-Attendance

Students that fail to attend a course that they are scheduled to begin are not entitled to the funds that are originally posted to the student account.  The students’ enrollment status will be adjusted and funds returned accordingly.  (Example student enrolled in 12 hours but fails to attend a 3 credit hour course.  The enrollment status will be adjusted from 12-9 and award will be recalculated and returned to the appropriate fund)

Students that withdraw or cease attendance during a payment period or period of enrollment in which they began attendance are subject to a Return of Title IV calculation.  A school must determine what portion of Title IV assistance is earned by the student.  A pro-rated schedule is used up through the 60% point to determine the amount the student has earned at the time of withdrawal.  After the 60% point, a student has earned 100% of the funds received or applied to the student account.

Students must repay Walters State for any funds returned to the Department of Education on their behalf.
