New Noncredit Class Focuses on Dementia Patients
Posted October 14, 2015

A new class offered through Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training will help both healthcare providers and family members learn new ways to care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
The first class, “Advanced Care in Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Forms of Dementia,” runs from 4-8 p.m  on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Dec. 1-10. The class is a video-based, online class.
“This is a great opportunity for healthcare providers to learn more about creating a person-centered approach to care for those struggling with dementia,” said Dr. Linda Nelms, coordinator of healthcare classes. Nelms said students will learn how to communicate and connect with patients and how to recognize pain and minimize health risks like falls.
Upon successful completion,  students will receive two certifications approved by the essentialAlZ and essentiALZ plus.
