Noncredit Classes Offer Variety of Skills

Walters State Community College will offer non-credit classes in human resources management, Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks and Welding. For information on any of these classes, please contact Amanda Hill at 423-798-7946 or 

•SHRM CP/SCP Certification Preparation is designed for individuals seeking this human resources professional certification. This course covers people, organization, workplace and strategy. It also covers behavioral competencies, leadership, ethics, relationship management, critical evaluation and communication. The cost is $1,095.00
Morristown Campus: Feb. 5 – April 23, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Mondays
Greeneville/Greene County Campus – Feb. 6-April 24, Tuesdays

•A Supervisor’s Toolkit covers leading people, including motivation, productivity and reducing turnover. The class also includes “different strokes,” which teaches how to acknowledge differences in today’s workforce, manage different generations working together and include employees with disability. Leadership effectiveness will teach communication skills and providing valuable feedback to employees. This class covers optimizing 
engagement and addressing harassment and violence. 
The cost is $349. 
Greeneville/Greene County Campus, Feb. 8-22, Thursdays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

•DISC Leadership Profile, Understanding Resources and Relationships covers corporate expectations in both external and internal relationships. Provides a 90-day plan for processes and procedures. Cost is $200.
Greeneville/Greene County Campus, Feb. 6, 8 a.m.-noon.

•Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level 2 covers multiple worksheets and workbooks, and more advanced formatting options including functions, formulas and data ranges. The cost is $150.
Morristown Campus, Feb. 7, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Greeneville/Greene County Campus, Feb. 14, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sevier County Campus, Feb. 21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

•Essentials Skills of Communications will teach the basics of communicating both clearly and concisely. The class also covers nonverbal communications and effective listening. The cost is $200.
Greeneville/Greene County Campus, Feb. 20, 8 a.m.-noon.

•Essential Skills of Leadership covers how to manage a team and enhance members’ self-esteem. Also learn how to effectively solve problems by focusing on team members and encouraging team-member participation. The cost is $200.
Greeneville/Greene County Campus, Feb. 13, $200

•Essential Skills of Team Motivation will cover how different team members respond to different influences and how to create a work environment that motivates each individual and the team as a whole to perform at a higher level. The cost is $200.
Greeneville/Greene County Campus, Feb. 27, 8 a.m.-noon

•QuickBooks covers basic accounting principles, creating companies, working with vendors, working with customers, banking with QuickBooks, customizing QuickBooks, physical inventory, payroll, estimates and time tracking, balance sheet accounts, budgets, closing the books, adjusting entries and more. The cost is $199.
Sevier County Campus, Feb. 14, 21 and 28, 8 a.m.-noon.

These classes are offered at the Walters State Advanced Manufacturing and Welding Building in Greeneville:

•Electrical and PLC Troubleshooting teaches students the PLC troubleshooting capabilities. The course covers electrical components, advanced electrical, PLC ladder logic and PLC advanced electrical trouble shooting. 
Feb. 6-April 26, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-7 p.m.
•General Welding provides an overview of Stick, MIG and TIG welding. Students will become familiar with techniques, equipment and applications of each process. Individuals exhibiting satisfactory skills will be allowed to perform a welder performance test in accordance with the American Welding Society. The cost is $574.
Feb. 27-March 29, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-9 p.m.
