Noncredit Classes Offer Training for Careers

Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training offers noncredit courses that can lead to new health-related careers in a matter of weeks or months. In addition to these classes, CPR for Healthcare Providers and CPR recertification for Healthcare Providers is offered every month at each campus. The following classes are scheduled to start soon. 
Greeneville/Greene County Campus
•Phlebotomy Technician, July 16-Sept. 24, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-9:30 p.m.
This course provides instruction in venipuncture, the process used to collect blood specimens. Students become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Class covers terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, hands-on practice and clinical training. The class prepares students to function as an entry-level phlebotomy technician. The cost is $1,449.

•Registered Dental Assistant, July 31-Dec. 20, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m. 
This class is approved by the Tennessee Board of Dentistry. The course covers all aspects of dentistry and the use of radiology in the dental office. Students must arrange 30 hours of observation with an area dentist. After successful completion of the course, the student must register as a dental assistant with the Tennessee Board of Dentistry to work as a registered dental assistant. The cost is $1,649.

Morristown Campus
•Certified Nursing Assistant, July 17-Oct. 2, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-9 p.m.
The class provides training for individuals to become a certified nursing assistant in Tennessee. Nursing Assistants perform basic patient care which includes assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs, and personal hygiene. The cost is $799.
