April 18, 2019

The Walters State chapter was recognized as the Most Distinguished College Project at both the state and the international level for “Reconnect the Reconnectors.” This project was designed to welcome adult learners attending college through the Tennessee Reconnect grant program and connect those students to college resources. The chapter was also recognized as a Tennessee Chapter of Light.
At the international convention, the Walters State chapter was recognized with the highest honor for chapters, the International Five Star Chapter.  The college also received the International Distinguished REACH Chapter recognizing its growth.
Advisors Dr. Lisa Eccles and Teresa Smith were named Distinguished Chapter Advisor Team. Eccles also received the Tennessee Region Horizon Award for her support of the goals of PTK on a state level. Eccles and Smith were also honored at the international conference. Eccles was named the Phi Theta Kappa Continued Excellence Advisor. This award recognizes advisors who have served at least four years and made Significant contributions to the growth of the individual chapters, served as a PTK advocate on campus and encouraged members to participate in PTK at all levels. Smith received the PTK Advisor Paragon Award, which recognizes excellence in advisors who have served less than four years as an advisor.
