August 13, 2019

Two recent Walters State Community College graduates have received statewide honors for academic excellence.
Lauren Eccles, a chemical engineering major from Jefferson City, and Ayesha Khan, a biology major from Pigeon Forge, were named to the All Tennessee Academic Team. The team is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community college students. Both students received associate degrees in spring.
Eccles received the 2019 Guistwhite Scholarship and was named a Coca Cola Gold Scholar. Eccles attended Walters State as a dual enrollment student, completing her associate’s degree at the same time she completed her college degree. She is now attending the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Khan was named a 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship and received the college’s biology major. She is attending East Tennessee State University as a Midway Honors Scholar and a Honors in Discipline Biology Scholar.
