The Tennessee Career Center at Talbott, an American Jobs Center, will offer 24 free workshops for job seekers in August. This month’s focus is on marketing your job skills. Workshops are provided by Walters State Community College and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The schedule for August is:
•Ex-Offender Job Readiness Workshop – Aug. 4, 11, or 25, 10-11 a.m.
•Job Readiness Basic 1 (includes job search, resumes and cover letters, interviewing techniques, and impressive applications) – Aug. 5, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
•Employability Skills (conflict management, teambuilding techniques, work ethics) – Aug. 5, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
•Job Search Marketability Lab (using jobs4tn.gov, resume revision/development, remedial math and reading development) –Aug. 6, 13 and 20, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (participants do not have to stay the entire day)
•Computer Literacy E-mail Basics – Aug. 7, 10-11:30 a.m.
•Computer Literacy Internet Basics – 1:30-4 p.m.
•Job Advancement Series (personal career exploration, strategic career planning techniques, motivation techniques) – Aug. 8 or Aug. 22, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
•Computer Literacy Mouse Practice – Aug. 12, 9-9:30 a.m.
•Computer Literacy – Aug. 12, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m
•“No Fear” Presentation Skills Development – Aug. 12, 2-4 p.m.
•Veteran’s Workshop (includes jobs4TN.gov intro and resume development) – Aug. 14 and Aug. 28, 9 a.m.-noon
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Spreadsheets – Aug. 14, 9 a.m.-noon
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Publishing – Aug. 14, 2-4:30 p.m.
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Slide Presentations – Aug. 21, 2-4:30 p.m.
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Notes Management – Aug. 26, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Data Base Management – Aug. 26, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
The Tennessee Career Center at Talbott offers a resource lab with computers, printers and fax machines. Job seekers may use these at no charge. Representatives from many area agencies are located at the Center. All services are available at no charge. The only requirement is that the individual be at least 18 years old. Those under 18 may receive services through the Workforce Investment Act Youth Services.
